I find indie devs put more care and attention to detail into their games compared to AAA who just pump them out trying to pay their staff. Not only because their overpriced in most cases but because indie devs need the support to help them grow. I often skim through websites/steam looking for hidden gems from indie devs. Man only just discovered this game this week! Lol In any case, this is my first Spiderweb game and I'm liking it a lot, and looking forward to checking out more in the future. More specifically I saw RPS's best RPGs list, which includes Avernum: Escape from the Pit, and decided to look into these games a bit more, having seen the name a few times and having my curiosity piqued. I think I just started seeing references to the company and their games here and there on sites like Rock Paper Shotgun and PC Gamer. When I did discover them, it was through all the usual stuff- Baldur's Gate, Fallout, etc.- and I've played a lot of others since then but never knew about Spiderweb's stuff until a couple years ago. I've been into RPGs my whole life, but didn't really discover CRPGs until a bit later. I've been playing games since the NES era, and played quite a few point and click adventure games for PC as a kid in the 90s, but my family had Macs so my computer gaming options were limited (of course all of Spiderweb's stuff is on Mac but I didn't know that then). Where you there for exile? Brand new to the series? In the end it was word of mouth that (finally) got me to the series and I plan to enjoy the trip.Ĭurious to know how everyone else discovered the series. Needless to say it was all very impressive especially in an age where "streamlined" RPG's seem to flood the market. Spidersoft's approach to indie gaming and the focus on rich story telling verse graphical bravado. Not just the single story of being thrust into an underground prison but more a overview of all the games in each series. I was out on a camping trip with a fellow CRPG fan and the topic obviously steered towards some of our favorite games of the genre.īG, BG:2, Fallout 1/2, Planescape: Torment. The second is that I haven't even heard of this game/series/spidersoft till recently. One is that I only recently started playing Avernum EFTP. I have to admit that I am alittle ashamed for two particular reasons while im posting this.
